Collection: Artist - Sam Campos
Is The Godfather of Hawaiian comic books and when the other comic book store on the island started calling my phone from a blocked number and telling people I was selling drugs to kids and sending people into my store to video tape themselves destroying merchandise this dude stood up for us but really he stood up for getting more kids on the Big Island to read. Because there is ZERO MONEY IN COMIC BOOKS — Thank god for selfless artist like this who live like wizards and just try to make the world a better place. He puts on for the archipelago and is a treasure to the nation of Hawaii.
Here’s a synopsis of his bio;
Sam Campos, born and raised in Hawaii of Hawaiian, Chinese, Filipino, and Caucasian descent, created Pineapple Manin 1984 and launched it as a comic a decade later, despite lacking modern tools and working on a tight budget. The series gained a loyal following, and while it took a long hiatus, Sam continued to teach graphic art at UH and worked in TV and film, handling fight choreography, costume design, and storyboards. After a stint in Hollywood, he returned to develop Dragonfly, a supernatural martial arts series rooted in Hawaiian legends and sci-fi, pioneering 3D prototyping for costumes. Passionate about blending Hawaii’s legends with storytelling, Sam is reviving Pineapple Man and has launched The Hawaiian Avenger Kanaka, about a homeless veteran facing supernatural challenges. In his downtime, he crafts unique toys and helmets, while staying active in the Hawaiian Comic Book Alliance. (https://www.kaaawasaki.com/about.html)
